There's plenty of geocaches hidden there, and I did bring my GPSr, but in the end we didn't go on any geocaching expeditions. By the time we had exhausted our list of castles, we were already kinda tired, so a long geocaching expedition was not in the cards anymore.
In Western Europe, the chance of dying in traffic are much higher than the chances of being the victim of a terrorist attack -- and still we step in the car to go places. I won't be stopped by this. But yes, it would have sucked because of the panic and everything closing down. But we were already home when this happened, and we were never even near to where this happened.
I'm not a fan of the Autobahn, actually. If there's no speed limit, then there may be vast differences in speed between the two lanes, making overtaking a truck rather dangerous. You could easily spend ten minutes waiting for an opportunity to overtake. Also, there are many short stretches with different speed limits. So no speed limit, then two kilometers of 120, then a short stretch 100, and then back to no speed limit. I like driving with the cruise control on, and this type of weirdness makes that uncomfortable. And there are many, many, many roadworks. Often multiple on the same Autobahn, with only 10 km in between. So you'd have no speed limit, and then everybody has to go back to 80 in order to pass a roadwork, then no speed limit for 20 km, and then back to 80 again for another roadworks.
It all makes for very irregular and uncomfortable driving. I'm happiest if I can just put my cruise control at 130 and coast along.
Thank God you guys weren't there.
