Current Mood: optimisticoptimistic
I signed up for an online course through Coursera: Maps and the Geospatial Revolution. I have a keen interest in mapmaking, and while this is about presenting information in the form of maps, I think most of the skills and knowledge will transfer to fantasy mapmaking.
And if not? Well, at least I learned something!

You could try having a look at Mapnik, it is a rendering engine for maps. Amongst others Openstreetmaps can be rendered by it (from a database), but you could also render your own maps of course.

It take a bit of setting up, but I think it could be interesting for you.
