Testing Skyrim

I want to play Skyrim some time in the near future. However, the PS3 version seems to be plagued with problems (mostly loading times and lag when your save file approaches a certain size) and the PC version seems to cope quite well. It just so happens that I have a half-decent PC in the living room, which we use to watch the fansubs on. And I read somewhere that you can play the PC version with a gamepad without any problems. The PC does meet the minimum specs, but not the recommended specs -- it's somewhere in the middle. And to top it off, the PC version is cheaper as well.

Is there an easy way to determine if the PC is powerful enough to play the game on? There are no demo versions, as far as I know...
