It turns out that modern Flash versions can read video streams from webcams. And that means there are a lot of websites that do flash-based group video chat.

Who would be up for playing a short RPG session through such a thing, as a feasibility test?

Actually, I wouldn't be using Google+ Hangouts. Sure, it has one nice feature (a zoomed-in feed of whoever makes the most noise), but it won't work on my hardware.
Sifonr, though, does work. And it doesn't require an account or registration.
