May. 17th, 2010 @ 10:20 pm Japan book
Current Mood: sleepysleepy
We took paper for signatures with us to Japan, and (almost) every evening, we wrote about our experiences. We also glued ticket stubs, maps and stamps into the signatures, so that we could make a nice souvenir book when we got home. And of course, there was to be a nice book-box to keep it in! Last Sunday we finished the last work on this.

The book-box is made with black linen on the outside. The back of the box has a text in gold on the top...

...with a cherry blossom design in silver on the bottom.

The front of the box has the same text (with a bigger font) and three silver sakura. You can also see the clasp that keeps the box closed on the side.

The box is kept closed by a pair of disposable chopsticks. :) The chopsticks are kept in place by ribbons, and a piece of elastic loops around the chopsticks to keep the lid closed.

The book inside the box.

The inside of the box is covered with white washi with a golden sakura-design -- here's a close-up.

The book. After the photos were added, the signatures were so thick that we needed something to keep them from bunching together at the spine and standing out too much. klik came up with the idea of using beads to keep the signatures spread apart -- and it makes for a really attractive effect!
The book is A5-sized, with purple washi with a gold sakura-design on the cover.

The endpaper is a manilla sheet with a design embossed in copper.

And some shots of some pages:

It's a pretty cool souvenir (I think), but next time we need to be careful to keep the signatures much, much smaller!

Very nice! I think the beads are a happy accident adding another element of interest to the book.

I completely agree with the beads being a 'happy accident'. And this being bound with the coptic stitch, if you open the book in between the signatures, you can see the beads in between. :)

Thanks! I like the beads too -- I think we'll be using them more often when the book warrants it.

Prachtig hoor!
