With the winter waxing and waning a few times to and fro here in the Netherlands, the ice on the (still unfinished) pond in our back yard has been gaining and losing thickness as well. klik was hoping that our neighbour's cat would walk out on the ice and would fall into the water. What can I say, it's not a very nice animal to interact with, let's leave it at that.
This morning I saw a different cat (one whom I had not seen before -- perhaps a new one) scouting out the place. He walked onto the ice, and it supported him. Even though yesterday afternoon I got a wet foot when I applied some pressure with my shoes on the ice...

You could always set a trap -- chip out a block of ice so it is floating, then put some catnip on that block. Of course there is the problem that it might get the new cat instead.

Well, yesterday, when I put some pressure on the ice, my foot shot through it and it was time to put on dry socks. :P
But this morning that piece had frozen to again -- so my plan was thwarted!

Karma! Don't do to cats what you wouldn't want done to yourself ;)

Truth be told, I did not test the ice with the idea of trapping cats. But I'm not so sure that karma takes the intention into account. ;)
