Think of the children!

Yesterday, a US Judge blocked a law that had been drafted in 1998 that would have criminalised allowing minors access to content deemed "harmful to minors". This would mean that, if I would post a nudie picture on my Journal, the SixApart staff could be jailed. Same goes with YouTube, MySpace, Wikipedia...

Needless to say, if that law had been upheld, there would be preciously little left of the so-called "Web 2.0".

Senior US District Judge Lowell Reed Jr. (am I the only one amused that a 'senior' judge is a 'junior'?) said: "[P]erhaps we do the minors of this country harm if First Amendment protections, which they will with age inherit fully, are chipped away in the name of their protection."

Maybe more people who scream "think of the children!" should chew on that one for a while.
