Damn!

Nothing wakes you up like being called by the police at 1 AM.
They asked me whether I had a blue Mazda (I do), and told me that someone had tried to set fire to our car. A neighbour had heard something and he had doused the fire. If there was any damage, they wanted me to file a complaint.

While I was getting dressed, our neighbour called at our door. We checked it out together: someone had squirted some flammable gel (the kind of stuff you use to light your barbecue with) over our car and the car next to it and set fire to it. There had been a small fire in between the cars and our left front tire had melted/got burned. The hissing of the escaping air alerted our neighbour who had ran out to douse the fire, which had been very easy -- it had been only a small fire, kicking a bit of sand over it had done the trick.
There was not much we could do after that, (the police didn't even bother showing up!) so we just went back to bed again. It took a while before we could sleep, though.

I'll go to the police today. We'll use the spare tire during the weekend and have it all checked out on monday at the garage.

First the outside mirror, now this -- we're going to apply for a garage box. Some classy neighbourhood this is.
