Day 15: Describe a tricky RPG experience that you enjoyed
I’m not entirely sure what qualifies as a ‘tricky experience’. A delicate situation between the players at the table? A hard situation that the characters found themselves in? A weird combination of rules interacting to create a very odd effect in the fiction?
I think I’ll describe a tricky situation the characters found themselves in that they resolved in a mechanical way — and that allowed for character building. It was after our first mission in The Sprawl: we had generated quite some interest from the mega-corps during our Session 0 to build relationships between the characters, and the mission had added quite some to that too. Some of the clocks were on the verge of tipping into those corps actively interfering with us, and we wanted to prevent that. We made some good money, so we collectively triggered the move Lay Low, which significantly reduces the clocks at the expense of our wealth and reputation.
We got to narrate how each of our characters spent this ‘vacation’, and that variety of locations and activities really defined our characters further, which went a long way in our intra-party roleplay for the rest of that (sadly aborted) campaign.
