So far, Facebook seems like LiveJournal to me, but then with a confusing interface and the very real possibility that you will miss something your friends post.

The difference to me is who is using it. Everyone I am interested in keeping up with (and even more people I don't quite care about) uses facebook to announce their holidays, weddings, babies and other life events. Very few of my friends still use LJ. And I noticed this worrying trend that if you're not on facebook, you only hear about these events from people talking about what they read on facebook.

True, that. FOMO ('Fear Of Missing Out') is a real driver for the network effect.

You have to go on Facebook regularly and have to make sure you read everything everybody posts or else you miss out on the important stuff. I still don't like Facebook and I am afraid that if I get one that means everybody assumes I know what is going on, while I am really bad at keeping up with sites like that :/ While now some people might actually tell me stuff directly.

Besides.. I really don't like the idea of Facebook so I am not getting one.

I think it's not fair that people expect others to see everything they broadcast -- it's the ultimate laziness.
